Server error - FrontPage 98/WinXP Home Edition web publishing prob

Help! I'm sorry if this query is in the wrong place (please let me know where
to post it if so), but the following problem is driving me nuts and all
attempts via my ISP/webhost have so far met with little response. In case
there might be something directly related to FrontPage I thought that I would
post here in case anyone can shed any light on this.

Ever since 14th July 2005 all attempts to update our website using FrontPage
98 and our AOL dial-up account (the last dated last week) using the same
procedures and computer/combination of software applications that have
previously worked (last time 10th May 2005), fail. I receive one of two
possible error messages:

“Server error – An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files.
Authors – if authoring against a webserver, please contact the WebMaster for
this server’s site. Webmasters – please see the server’s system log for more
details.â€

or

“Server error – Client closed connection.â€

I have no idea why I am seeing either of these messages. I have contacted
our webhost and they initially reported that the ftp was working correctly,
however all attempts to publish via FrontPage 98 (as normal) fail with one or
other of the two error messages and I was told in July 2005 that the problem
had been logged and that someone would call me back. Subsequent letters to
them (about one a month) have only met with one telephone call to say that
they were investigating. I'm still waiting, hence this request to the
FrontPage community to see if anyone can help.

I can publish to my hard disc OK (albeit with the FrontPage server
extensions unsupported) and have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Server
Extensions for the FrontPage PersonalWebServer on their own, and then (more
drastically) uninstalling/reinstalling Frontpage 98 itself. As yet, I'm not
having any success.

Many thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give me.

Regards

If your site is hosted on a Unix/Linux server and you host has upgraded to the FP2002 extensions,
the FP98 client application can no longer be used to publish or access the site.

You have to either upgrade to FP2000 client application or higher or you would need to move your web
site to a Windows IIS web server.
