E-mailing links, not actual files.

How do I attach a document LINK to an e-mail message, rather than attaching
the document itself?

The document resides on a shared network drive that both the sender and
recipient can access.

There used to be an "insert as link" or "insert as shortcut" option within a
new message in Outlook, but I can't seem to find it or alter my options to
get it to show.

That is only for Rich Text e-mails. You're better of setting Word as your
e-mail editor and then use Insert-> Hyperlink...

Hi,
I am also having the same issue.
I have a user who needs to be able to attach a file short cut (not a
hyperlink) eg excel.xls.lnk. However, as previously mentioned this option
doesnt appear to be available anymore.
I have even tried creating a shortcut and then trying to attach the shorcut
in an email, but outlook just attaches the actual file :/
I've tried rich, plan and html formatted mail and have had no luck :(
The only solution i have is to tell the user to send hyperlinks and to get
the peoplel at the other end to create shortcuts from the hyperlinks, but
these are users and it might be classed as "too technical" for them to do
Can anyone advise if it is possible to regain the "insert as shortcut" option?

Thanks in advance
Paul

Shortcut files (.lnk) are blocked by default in Outlook. If you indeed need
to send lnk-files you could zip them before you send them. You can also
unblock the lnk file type but that is not recommended practise;

Hi thanks for the quick response :)

I've actually found you can drag a shortcut on to the mail to attach it and
it doesnt get converted to the original file \o/. I never try the simple
solutions first :/

thanks again
