In Outlook deleted emails should be in your Deleted Items
(looks like a trash can). You can set up your preferences
to empty trash upon closing Outlook (at Tools, Options,
Other) or deleted items could remain in trash until you
go into that folder and empty them.
In Hotmail, trash is emptied automatically, not sure
about frequency (1-3 days).
If you are at work, some employers have backups for
email. Ask your IT support.
