e-mail on laptop and desktop

Hi,

I'm kind of new to outlook (came from the Lotus Notes
world), and I am trying to figure out something. If I
have a user with a desktop and laptop, is there a way to
configure outlook to receive e-mail on both?
Currently if she reads her mail on her desktop, it
downloads from the ISP to the desktop, and if she
connects from home later with the desktop, the e-mail is
gone because it was downloaded to the desktop. I guess
what I want is to be able to download the e-mail to the
desktop, but not have it removed from the ISP so she can
still download it to the laptop. Is this possible with
outlook?

Thanks for any help!

In the account settings for the POP3 account, tab: Advanced, you can
tell outlook to leave copies on the server, and specify how they are
eventually deleted. This is a standard feature of POP3 protocol (not
Outlook specific). I never really "trusted" it, but i guess it works.
Test to your own satisfaction.

For this level of complexity, if the ISP provides an IMAP server access
to email, this ability to use multiple machines like this will work a
whole lot better. I use an IMAP connection and interact with the server
with five or six different client machines (all different software
running on different OS's for that matter) and I never lose mail.

Yes.

Depending on the version of Outlook that is being used,
the following instructions may be slightly different, but
it can be done on all of them.

Click TOOLS -> SERVICES (or Accounts depending on version)
Then choose the e-mail account that you wish to apply this
to.
Choose PROPERTIES (or Change depending on version)
You should see an ADVANCED tab.
Under this tab you will see a checkbox next to the option
"Leave a copy of messages on server"
You can check or uncheck that or choose how many days to
leave the messages intact until you remove them, etc.
Set this to your preference on both the desktop and
laptop. However, ensure that it does get removed at some
point or you will block up your e-mail account on the
server end and it may eventually refuse new messages.

Hope this helps!

Check the advanced POP3 settings to make sure you leave a
copy on the ISP server. Check the box on the "advanced
tab" in the "more Settings" pop up. (Assumes Outlook 2002)
This will leave a copy of the original mail message on the
ISP server for a period of time that you specify.
