E group dialler

Ad Aware finds E group dialer on his system and on deletion it keeps
reappearing (a sex page popsup as he browses) . He hasn't updated IE.
His version of Ad aware needs updating. My question is the latest version of
Adaware + definitions likely to be able to fix it? (Or if not I don't see a
special download on the Adawre site)
A web search brings up screes of Forum >Hijack this >log > blah, blah etc.
I hope you see what I've made myself clear.
Thanks
John

Ad Aware finds E group dialer on my friends system and on deletion it keeps
reappearing (a sex page popsup as he browses) . He hasn't updated IE or the
latest version of Ad aware My question is would the latest version of
Adaware + definitions likely to be able to fix it?

I don't see a special download on the Adawre site so presumably there is
nothing Ad Aware can't handle if it is updated?

Running a combination of programs in safe mode is what's needed to deal
with malware. One program doesn't do it all. You might need to run
hijackthis and post the log to one of the specialty forums, not this one.

Actually I just read that turning off system restore then running Ad-aware
may do it. Is that too easy?

Probably just turning off System Restore and then running Ad-aware will
not produce a clean computer. In any case, you don't really want to
turn off System Restore until you've got the computer cleaned. After
you've gotten it clean, then you want to make a new known-clean System
Restore point and delete all the previous System Restore points with
Disk Cleanup. The idea behind that is if something goes very wrong, you
may want to be able to get back into that system even if it is
infested.

Along with the links you've already gotten, here are general malware
removal steps. If you do them systematically, you have a good chance of
cleaning up that machine. If it looks too hard or time-consuming (and
it is fine to admit that - we all have our own areas of expertise),
have your friend take the computer to a professional computer repair
shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

Afterwards, have your friend practice "Safe Hex".

Please download, install and update the following software...

SpyBot Search and Destroy v1.4
http://security.kolla.de/

After the software is updated, I suggest scanning the system in Safe Mode with both Ad-aware
SE and SpyBot S&D.

I also suggest downloading, installing and updating BHODemon for any Browser Helper Objects
that may be on the PC.
