I ahve a XP pro box which was working under the domain at the office. I
brought it home, where it connects to a linksys 4-port (+wireless) router,
which is connected thru cable to the
internet, using the same position (one of the 4 ports) and connection to the
router of a previous PC . the router is the DHCP server.
I changed my TCP/IP settting to be all dynamic, left the domain, and when
started at home, the local network was forever stuck at aquiring network
address. IPCONFIG showed all zeros for IP address, the router (I access it
from a different PC) does not show the new PC, the network card orange light
was on steady. I tried reseting all PCs and the router, running repair, to
no avail.
when I switched the PC to use static IP, I simply took one an address that
was not in use (192.168.1.xxx) and pointed to a DNS server we have at the
office, it can connect!
switching back to dynamic IP still does not work.
even though I am connected now, this is not a good setup and I'd like to
know how can get the XP to work using dynamic IP/DHCP.
