Dynamic Excel chart in PowerPoint...

I've been trying to insert a dynamic Excel chart that includes option
buttons into a PowerPoint presentation. I tried linking the chart as an
object using paste special and that worked fine except that, when it came
time for the show, the option buttons in the Excel chart are not working. Is
my only option to just create an icon in the presentation that will open
Excel? Or is there a way to have the option buttons work in PowerPoint?

Can you explain what you mean by "option buttons"? What do the option
buttons do?

Also, which version of PPT and Excel are you using?

You can have the Excel object open on a mouseclick -- and it doesn't have to
be an icon. But the buttons will either need to be PPT buttons, or if
they're Excel buttons, you'll have to have Excel opened in order to use
them.

Right, these are option buttons in the Excel chart itself that change
the information that is displayed in the chart. At present, I'm using
PPT 2002 and Excel 2002...

Thanks Echo,

Rob

Okay, so use Insert|Object|Create from File. Choose your Excel file. Don't
choose the "display as icon" option.

Then right-click the Excel file and choose custom animation.

In the custom animation pane, choose Add Effect|Object Actions|Open.

Now play your slide show. When you click the mouse, the Excel document
should open in Excel so you can use the buttons inside the Excel file. Note
that this opens the Excel file when you click the mouse, no matter where you
click the mouse. Just a plain ol' mouse click, you know?

You could also do this with a trigger if you prefer. That means you'd
actually have to click an object on the slide -- like a picture or an
autoshape or a fake button or even the Excel file itself -- to open up the
file in Excel. To do that, follow the same instructions above to add the
Open "animation" and then double-click the animation effect in the custom
animation task pane. Go to the Timing tab.
Click Triggers
Click "start effect on click of"
Choose the Excel file. (It's probably called something like "object 3.")
Click OK.
Test the file. Remember, you have to click on the Excel file on the slide to
open it.

Awesome, Echo. Your suggestion worked like a charm...

Thanks!
