DVD writing working, but now CD-R Writing not working - Why?

Hi there,

Went in to help a friend out with their PC for DVD writing. After
discovering that XP does not natively right to DVD-RW and finding the
software they had installed on the laptop did not seem much cop, I purchased
and installed Nero OEM Suite 3.

All works well and using InCD they can even drag and drop files to DVD-RW.
However since installing the software, where as before they could just
insert a blank CD-R into the CD drive and immediately drag files to it, they
can not do this any longer.

It just does not recognise the CD. They can still burn data CD's by going
through Nero, but although I have solved one problem for them, I have
created another (being the slight inconvenience of not being about to drag
files to a CD-R).

Why is this?

Thanks in advance.

Evidently this happened after you installed Nero. (Why version 3 when 6 is
only $5 and sometimes free?) It may have taken over the CD functions and
blocked out Windows capabilities to let you drag and drop.

Open any folder and click Tools then Folder Options/File Types. Go down your
list to see if Nero is listed next to any CD functions and remove the entire
line. Next boot Windows should be back to where it was before Nero.

sorry I meant Nero 6 suite 3 (as opposed to suite 1 which does not include
the backup application and a few others).

Will give this a try. Not my PC but as soon as I get access. In fact when
you clicked on the D (CD Drive) drive I think it gave an error if I blank
CD-R was in there. I think it gave the option to InCD erase or format it,
but this is no good if you do this and then use the CD-r to send to someone
who does not have inCD.
Also we are talking about write once CD-r's here, not RW which is what InCD
is geared towards.

So my mission - to get back the normal CD writing abilities of XP (to a
CD-R) without losing the DVD writing abilities added by Nero.

Is this possible you think?

Open up the properties of the drive and check the "enable recording" tab and
click apply. This will not effect Nero but it might have been changed when
you installed it.
