DVD Writers not there

I have all of my patches, all of my updates and everything has been Honky
dorey for several months.

I installed 1clickDVD and DVD43 and made a copy of one of my Old Movies.
Then the next day, I tried to connect to the Internet and instead after about
4 rings, my computer woulld suddenly reboot. So figuring that was a result of
what I last installed, I unistalled the two software programs. WoW! I was
able to connect, but my Two DVD Writers became GONE. in Device Manager there
is Yellow on them and when I click and try to update driver, I get "Windows
can not load driver my be missing or corrupt Error 39" So I tried and earlier
Restore point. Nope...same result. I tried to uninstall and reinstall with
computer boots in between, the Plug and Play would recognize the DVD Writer,
install and give NO Error Messages, but when I used Windows Explorer to view
my drives, they are not listed. I then thought will maybe I lost permission,
so I booted in Safe Mode, and went to Security etc etc, Nope not shwon there
either. WEent to Hp and Windows to see if I could get Firmware updates or
drivers, I copied to a Flashdrive and tried to install, Nope... I know
something has a hold of Writers and am not sure where to look in sysreg to
find it,. Help, I really don't want to Reformat, You folks have been a BIG
help in the past and have saved me megatons of work. Thanks in advance.

well if you got a xp disk with your machine you could do a repair install
and see if that clears up the problem.
It seems you have a newer machine is it still under warranty, call HP.

In otisdog <[email protected]> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:
Try this - deleting the filters may do the trick:

I have seen this work time and time again when the drives disappear.

In following with the above:

Missing CD/DVD Drives:
http://kgiii.info/windows/XP/general/missing_CD-DVD_drives.html

You'll find some information including a link to a tool by Doug Knox (MVP)
that will perhaps restore them...

If neither of those do the trick be sure to let us know - someone will
likely dig into the potential hardware problems for you at that point.

Have only a Recovery CD and not a Windows and I really feel it isn't HP's
fault. Was hoping someone would know what to do instead of trying to
understand someone from India.
Thanks a bunch will keeping searching for the fix. Problem came suddenly
and I know the fix can work as fast, just need to get the right combo.

Hello, Suggest you follow other posters information concerning this problem.
Have both programs on my unit, updated DVD43 to v3.7.0, last night.
I had a problem with my 2 optical units after installing" DVD43 v 3.7.0".
Drives worked but would not recognize disc, had to manually start programs.
Have GoBack installed and used this program to revert drive.
Reverted drive and will use an early version of DVD43, hope that the problem
with v 3.7.0 is resolved.
Wish you well with both endeavors.

DVD 43 v 3.7.0 is exactly what I am using with 1 Click DVD Pro, are you
saying you had problems with that Version or with Earlier versions and that v
3.7.0 is what is working? I am not sure what you meant in your post.
I did a lot of research before downloading 1clcik DVD Pro and it was at
one of their sites where it was suggested to download the DVD 43, so I
clicked on the link and downloaded the version they had. Today, thinking my
problem was DVD 43 I went to google and found a few sites one were it
mentioned Codecs and when I went to it, it spoke of earlier versions giving
problems and that v 3.7.0 was more trouble free.
Thanks for your input, please clarify what you meant.

Am I misreading your post? You say you uninstalled both DVD writing
programs and now wonder why they no longer work?

Then you used System Restore? I use GoBack which DOES restore everything to
a previous condition but it is my understanding that System Restore only
restores your WinXP operating system to a previous condition... it has no
effect on files or 3rd party programs.

Sorry! I have only been trying to speak English for 54 years and haven't
succeeded well.
Yes! I Unistalled both 1 click DVD Pro and DVD 43 utility and No! I am
NOT wondering why my software doesn't work, I AM wondering why I can't see or
access my DVD Writers.
I have used multiple Restore points, I have uninstalled the DVD Writers
and used Device Manager to reinstall and have even tried not to use Device
Manager but rather reboot and let Plugf and Play do it. They seem to install
but when I use Windows Exporer ( my preference since the File Manager days)
to find my drive G and Drive H, they do NOT appear. In Bios they are there, I
have tried booting in Safe Mode and looking for them... didn't see them tere
either. Something is using them and not allowing me to see them. I am looking
for a fix and some earlier posters gave me some good advice that makes sense
and will try when I arrive home. When I uninstalled the two programs I did
NOT go to my Registry and clean it. should have and should have runned
sysedit and deleted all reference to those programs and then rebooted, I did
not. I thought of it afterwards but never did. So I have been using my T-1
connection here at work to search for clues, do some research and see if I
can go home armed with solid leads. I have a slow dial-up at home.

Hello, Sorry if i created some confusion.
DVD43 v3.7.0. was the cause of my problem.
Have 1Click DVD 4.1, works, no problems.
Have an old copy of DVD43 v1.3.0.54, works, no problems.
