I own three DVD burners. The first is the NEC ND2500A and it's not a
bad drive. I occasionally run into media that won't work with it, but
overall it works fairly well. I bought it based on price and it's now
in my wife's computer.
The second is the Optorite DD0203 and I bought it primary because it
does CD burning at 24x and I was hoping to completely replace my CD
burner with it (16x is just too slow for burning CD's). I had a lot of
problems with it at first. It didn't work with most media I tried.
However, the firmware update in November finally solved that problem.
It's now in my computer at home and I haven't had any problems with it
in quite some time.
The third is the Pioneer A06 which is in my computer at work. This
thing has been a workhorse and I haven't had a single problem with it
from the moment I got it. Since Pioneer appears to be the standard by
which all other DVDR drives are measured, it works with ALL known media
and it's been extremely reliable. The only "problem" with it, if you
want to call it that, is CD burning is slow, so I had to keep a fast CD
burner in my computer.
