DVD Writer Causing Blue Screen of Death

Hello

Can someone please help me find out why my DVD writer occasionally copies
CDs without problems but then crashes with the blue screen when I insert a
fresh blank disc to record again?
It is a Sony DVD RW DW U18A
I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling it but still have the problem.

Update or upgrade your burning software and disable the inbuilt XP CD Wiz...

Which BSOD do you get?

Anyway, since Blue screens are often hardware, check RAM with
memtest86+, and te hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tool.
Seatools from seagate will work if you can't find yours.
