Two problems - machine rebooting and writing CD/DVDs

A

Adrian Parker

Running latest xp patches.

Problem 1.. rebooting without warning..

I'll be working away and suddently the machine reboots.. not blue screen or
anything, just reboots..

(I've turned off reboot on error, no difference)

Problem 2.. cd/dvd writers aren't working

I can write to the CDs / DVDs ok, but then can't read back from them.. on
any machine.. including the machine I wrote them on. Tried writing via XP
drag/drop and by using NTI software, no difference.

CD-RW = Sony CRX230E
DVD-RW = Sony DW-U18A

Where should I start looking ?:

TIA for any ideas
Adrian

Rich, thanks for the link!

The machine is made by a company here in the UK called Poweroid, I can't
have a look inside as it would void the warranty. A friend of mine has the
same machine and it has the same problems mine does.. of course the company
says it's going to be a configuration problem. and says we'd need to send it
back to them for them to have a look at, and of course it's my work machine
so I can't be without it.

Adrian, temps look fine. What are your 3, 5 and 12v readouts. 5v should
not go below 4.7 and 3.3 should not go below
3.10. You could try rt clicking on MyComputer>select
Properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Dvd/Cdrom Drives>rt click on each one and
choose Uninstall. Restart and let WinXP reinstall them both. Here's a good
site for Restart problems

Thanks, I'll have a read of the page.. it looks like a few hours worth of
checking work there :)

+3.3 = 3.33v
+5 = 4.85v
+12 = 12.65
-12 = -8.59
-5 = 0.00v

I've tried uninstalling the CD/DVD drives and it made no difference.
