DVD Write Problem

I can't get Windows to write to a DVD-RW. I'm trying to copy a folder
onto a DVD for backup purposes.

First I tried a new blank one and that didn't work.

Then I initialized it on my LG DVD player. When I put it on the
computer, it has two folders on it - VIDEO-RM and VIDEO-TS. But it says
there is no free space and a total size of 32.2 MB. File System is UDF.

Then I tried having Windows erase it. Again, it says zero space
available. When I try to copy a folder onto it, it says either it is not
a writeable disk or it is full.

What am I doing wrong?

Well - assuming you posted in the correct space and have given all
information pertinent to what you are attempting to do:

You are attempting to write to a DVD using Windows XP native CD-only writing
capability. You need to use a third party application to write to a DVD in
Windows XP. Windows XP cannot natively write to DVDs.

Windows can't write to DVDs. You must have a DVD writing program.

Didn't know that - I'll try Nero - thanks.

In any case, a disc with a VIDEO_TS folder is preformatted for video. It is
not a data DVD. (Though it may work as such, and you can always erase it if
it's a RW)

Other free alternatives to Nero are DeepBurner, InfraRecorder or CDBurnerXP.
No need to pay for a bloated package if your requirements are fairly
straightforward.

Further to other answers. Formatting the disc on your video player renders
the disc unwritable in most DVD burning utilities. Most will also refuse to
erase the disc because DVD video recorders format the disc in a format not
recognised by windows. Some packet writing utilities will reformat the disc
and a few will erase it but only becaue they don't bother to check what
format the disc is in first.
