Hello
A month ago I formated a DVD+RW Rewritable and dragged about 2.5Gs to it.
on checking rhe DVD 'Details' showed
File System: INCDFS
Free Space: 2.48GB
Total Size: 4.37 GB.
Today I tried to drag/drop another folder to the same DVD disc
and couldn't.
Highlighting the same disc now shows 'Details'
File System: UDF
Free Space 0 bytes
Total Size 4.37GB
The only change to my system was the addition of another DVD CD ROM unit
which changed the drive letter.
Whats a UDF file system anyway?
Thanks for any help

Since you have Windows XP - you need to look into the help for the
application you were ACTUALLY using to write to the DVD+RW in the way you
describe. Looks like Ahead Nero InCD... But it could be any third party
application that provides such services (Windows XP does not.)

Apparently, you CLOSED the disk.

You can continue to add content to a multisession disc until the disc is
full or closed, at which point you can no longer append any further data.

This is the same for DVDs...
Closed CD:
[[If a CD is closed, it is permanently write-protected. No further
information can be added to the disc. Closing a CD is analogous to moving
the write-protect tab on a floppy disc to the write-protect position.
However, unlike floppies, you can only change the write-protect setting on a
burned CD once. Once the disc is write-protected (closed), this setting is
permanent.]]

UDF (Universal Disk Format) is a DVD/compact-disc file system.

INCDFS is the InCD File System from Ahead Software aka Nero.

To build on the other replies: When you installed the second DVD device,
did you install any software, drivers, etc? If yes, you might have damaged
the ability to write to DVDs. While one DVD writer software is good, two or
more can conflict.

However, if a blank DVD+RW works, then it is likely to be a case of having
closed/finalized the media. But, you can still erase it an write again, and
again.

InCD is by Nero, and is one of a few ways to treat CDs and DVDs like
magnetic disks (i.e., supports drag&drop).

This is not necessarily a reliable way to backup files, since (1) there is
no single standard for UDF, (2) the details vary with operating system
(e.g., 98 vs XP).

A better way is to treat the CD or DVD as write-once media, using Joliet
format. That is readable on most PCs, MAC, and LINUX boxes. In the case of
a CD+-RW or a DVD+-RW, write once does not really mean write once. It means
that you will need ot erase (not format, but erase) the optical media before
you can write on it again.

Thankyou g'men. I am a bit wiser now.
And I had reinstalled Nero6.5 ( and InCD) between times.
I'l try again when I get some more CDs.
Thanks again
