Built my first computer running Widows 2000Pro. Everthing worked perfectly.
Decided to run XP Pro...All works fine except DVD RW...It is recognized in
device manager, however, when load any type of DVD or Cd, drive spins, lights
up and then nothing...Also when rebooting, I get error message says: "Service
not started". Suggestions?

Thanks

XP does not have the capability to write to DVDs. You'll need third party
software for that to happen. Without anything extra added, the drive should
be reading CDs and DVDs and it sounds like that is not working. Have you
tried reinstalling your CD/DVD writing software yet?

XP uses the IMAPI service to burn CDs but some burning programs disable
that to work in XP. On the other hand, some are compatible with IMAPI and
leave it alone. Also, most of these programs will add their own service to
deal with RW disks. Reinstalling your disk writing program should sort out
all of these loose ends in the most appropriate manner for your software.
