DVD-RW Functionality

Can anyone tell me whether DVD+RW disks should act like
CD-RWs under XP. When I insert a new DVD+RW in my drive,
the my computer icon for the drive changes to "CD Drive"
from "DVD-RW Drive" and the details box changes to Free
4.37GB Total 4.37GB. Any attempt to format or write
files to the drive is unsuccessful saying that it is not
a writeable disk or full.

These resources do not address DVD Writing that I can
find. Any other suggestions?

The built in XP CD authoring software is for CD-R/RW, not for DVD authoring. You'll have to purchase and install DVD burning software to be able to use DVDs as writeable storage.
