DVD-RW Drive Will Not Burn

G

Guest

I use the built in burning application in ZP, and every time I try to burn a CD-R or CD-RW, the program tells me there is no disk in the drive

However, I am still able to read from CD's. I even put a CD-RW that wasn't completely full in the drive, and it read the files, but still told me there was no disk in the drive when I tried to write to the CD

I tried reinstalling the driver, but that didn't seem to work

Any help would be appreciated.

....and it is enabled for recording? Right-click the drive, choose
PROPERTIES, then click the RECORD tab, to take a look.

The built in burning program closes the session after the burn - you CAN NOT add to the CD.

To use a CD-RW, the contents of the CD-RW have to be transfered to HD the additional items added (or deletions made) on the HDD, the CD-RW erased, then transfered from HDD to CD-RW.

Buy a 3rd party burning program, much easier - packet writing like a floppy.

Using the built-in XP burner...
Files can be appended to CR/R or CR/RW disks that contain DATA only. But
AUDIO disks, that will play on a standard (non-PC) audio player, must be
created in a single session, and are closed to future writes. A CD/RW can
be totally erased, however, then rewritten.

A 3rd-party packet writing util will allow writing/deletion of single DATA
files.

The OPs point was that XP was telling him that there was no disk in the drive, " the program tells me there is no disk in the drive." and "I even put a CD-RW that wasn't completely full in the drive, and it read the files, but still told me there was no disk in the drive when I tried to write to the CD."

So you are telling me that given that situation he can write to the CD?

Not at all. But the fact that DATA files exist on the CD is not
preventing the burn. I tested that scenario here, using XP's burner with
both R and RW disks, and was able to append additional DATA files.

Possible clues to the error are in MS KB article referenced in the reply
by Mr. Obvious, in this thread. And be sure that the RECORD tab lists the
drive as enabled for recording.
