DVD+ RW/ CD+RW not accessable

About a week ago my disk drive stopped working. Never had a problem before
and laptop is only about a year old. I tried to play a DVD on my laptop the
other day and nothing happened when i clicked on drive in my computer this
message came up:

E:/ is not accessible

The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Does any one have any ideas how i can fix this i rang a computer repairs
shop and they said it could either be a problem with my disk drive or a
problem with my software.
