DVD-RW appears as CD drive under Windows XP

Hi. I have two drive bays: a CD-RW and a DVD-RW running under Windows
XP Pro. All was fine until recently. Now the the DVD-RW appears as a
DVD-R when there's no disk in the drive. If I insert a blank DVD-RW
disk this changes to just being a CD drive. If I insert a pre-recorded
DVD it recognises and plays it. Has anyone else had this problem? Any
solutions?

Thanks

You haven't described a problem, unless you can't
remember what kind of drives you have. Do the drives
recognize and properly burn the inserted media? The way
that XP describes shortcuts makes no sense sometimes. My
DVD+/-RW drive is sometimes labeled CD-ROM, sometimes
CD-R, sometimes DVD-RW, but it always works as it should.

Hi David,

Suggestions and checkpoints:

Try: Unchecking "Enable CD recording on this drive" in the
Properties/Recording window.

I have the same problem. If you get any help with this I'd love to know the
fix. Thanks.
