My old DVD ROM/CD Writer died the other day, and I decided to buy a new one
but now a Multi DVD writer, the same I has as master IDE in my equipment (LG
4167B). So I did and bought model LG 0610B, but when installed, it now takes
almost double the time to copy a full disk as it took before. It was 6-7
minutes before, and now it takes 13-15 minutes ... I have upgraded the
firmware, have upgraded to Nero 7.2.7.0 but the "problem" still persists ...
I'm now thinking to go back to old times and buy a combo DVD ROM/CD writer ..
but still can't think on why it is not working at least as it used before ...

Any comment on what could have happened?

Thanks. Paco

We need more details. You replace your old DVD Rom/CD writer combo drive with
a new LG 0610B drive.

1) How did you connect it to your system?
On the same cable as your LG 4167B drive?
On a separate cable???
On the same cable as your boot (C:) hard drive??

2) Did you check/change the jumper settings in the back of the new drive??
If Yes, from "what" to "what."

3) Did you uninstall your old combo drive from Device Management?

4) Did you try to re-install the chipset drivers, in hopes to update the IDE
drivers??

Thanks for taking the time Yves.

New MultiDVD writer is LG GSA-H10A (not as I said before 0610B drive). It
was connected where it was previously the combo drive, jumper is set to Slave
(as opposite to the other one set up as Master - althought I also tried
setting up both of them to CSV) and it is connected to the same IDE cable on
primary IDE Channel. C: drive is separate from them.

Old combo drive was not uninstalled ... I just swapped drives and it
recognized the new one at the next boot.

I didn't re-install the chipset drivers ... mainly because I don't know how
to do it.

The problem of drives being slow is just on copy from one unit to the other
... if you try to gen an audio CD, for instance, from disk drive it only takes
a couple of minutes which is OK. It is just on quick CD copies ...

DMA is on on D: (the existing one) and off in E: (the new drive).

Thanks again for your time

More details ...

Why do I have two Primari IDE Channels in Device Management, under IDE
ATA/ATAPI controllers ?

Should'n it be only one?

Thanks,
Paco
