Some DVD Writers use -R discs & not +R's

You are trying to copy a film. Do you own the copyright?

What is the size of the downloaded film?

What size is the DVD+R/RW? Is it big enough for the source?

What software are you using to copy? Is this software setup for disc-to-disc
copy? Roxio for example won't copy copyrighted material

My guess is that the DVD-Rewriter is not installed correctly, it seems to be
running on an incorrect driver... to install it correctly, you have to
uninstall it from Windows and restart the computer to let Windows do a
correct auto-installation.. so do as follows:

Click on the Start Button\Control Panel\Management Tools\Computer
Management\Device Manager.. In device manager look for DVD/CD Drives(at the
bottom of the window), select the DVD Rewriter with a right mouse click and
select "Uninstall", then restart the computer and allow a minute or two for
Windows to do the correct installation. If that does not correct the
problem, you may have to install the driver from the CD included with the
DVD-Rewriter or visit the manufacturer website to look for the correct
driver or ask for support.

By the way, what program are you using to do the copy,.. and does the device
have the same problem with a blank CD-R or CD-RW?

If you're using Windows to read/burn DVDs, the system may need the proper
DVD decoder, or try using third party DVD Burning software.. You said you
have no trouble burning CDs, so it sounds like you need to install the right
decoders for DVD reading/burning.

Another observation, you can play some video formats and mp3 music burned on
CDs on most DVD Players, it takes longer than a DVD to read and reproduce
but most players will play them. Give the DVD Player a few minutes to read
and start reproducing; it may also take clicking a few buttons on the
remote.

You seem to have a common problem which consists of burning CD or DVD in
multiple burning sessions.. if you burn files at different times on the same
CD or DVD, you have to leave the media open for future burning sessions and
that causes reading problems particularly if you use different burning
software in different sessions. So try to burn all the files you want to
burn in a single sesion (or burn at once method) and close it... Also, leave
some free space at the end of the CD or DVD, if you don't leave sufficient
space, you can also make the disc unreadable. The usual empty space to have
to leave at the end of the disc is about 30MB if I remember correctly.

If you burn at different sessions and don't leave enough space for the
software to close the last session, or the single session, you most probably
will have reading problems.

A few tips to prevent burning and reading problems on CDs and DVDs
a- Use and stick to certain burning software, third party software do a much
better job than Windows
b- Use and stick to a brand of CD or DVDs.. not absolutely necessary but
some media are better than others, when you find the brand that suites your
needs, stick to it.
2- Preferably use the burn at once method for burning CD or DVDs... and
leave enough disc space after the last session (in miltisession recording)
or after the single or burn at once recording session. The burning software
should have the exact empty space you have to leave on the disc.
