DVD region

hi,

I have a HL-DT RW/DVD GCC-4240N
DVD player, currently I have region 1 and I want to change
it to region 4, when I go to the properties and select DVD
region, it says I have 1 change remaining, when I select
region 4 and then ok it says this is my last chance, then
I press yes and then it says DVD region change error, it
says "unable to update region setting. Please make sure
the drive contains a region 4 media (I have a region 4 dvd
in the drive) and you have administration privilege" I am
using my user that I am the administrator of the computer.
Can someone please help me to change the region to 4. I
understand this will be the last time I can change this.

Do a google search, there are some website that have free softwares to break the regional settings for DVD.

I had a similar problem (not the same player). I contacted the maker of my
DVD drive, they had me download a upgrade that fixed the problem.

By design, the vast majority of DVD drives are limited in the number of
region changes they will allow. In addition to that, Windows software
that play DVD's also limit the number of times they will accept a region
changes.

As suggested in an other post, identify very precisely your DVD drive
(using dvdinfo.exe for instance which can be easily found on the
Internet and is free).

Then with this information, search the Internet for a firmware download
for your specific dvd drive which will make it region free (key words,
region free, firmware, dvd, for instance). I know one site which sells
the downloads, another which just lets download for free). Be aware that
this operation entails some risks; if it fails, you may have to buy
another drive. So double check everything before you do it.

This can be done even if you have reached the limit of region changes
for your drive.

Then, you will have to use a specific software (DVD Region Killer is one
of them) which fools Windows into believing the number of region change
remains under the limit.

Sounds daunting but it is well worth it and as far as I know, there is
nothing wrong in using region free drives, at least privately.
