DVD Region Problem

I have exactly the same problem as the post below but my DVD drive happens to
be a MATSHITA UJ-840D and the software mentioned will therefore not work. I
have been looking for firmware on the internet but have been unsuccessful so
far. Can anyone suggest anything i could try short of buying another DVD
drive.

If i have to do this, can anyone suggest a decent cheap make. I am a poor
student!!
Hi there,
I have Windows XP Home Edition. I have recently changed my DVD region
from region 2 to watch an American DVD. I still have 1 change left,
and yet when i try and change the region back to region 2 it comes up
with the message:

Unable to update region setting. Please make sure the drive contains
region 2 media and you have administrative privilege.

I have tried several of my region 2 dvds and i am the only user and
administrator of the computer.
Any help would be much appreciated,
many thanks

How many times has the DVD Region Code been changed? There is
usually a limit of just 5 changes before the DVD unit has to be
serviced or updated by the factory. OTOH, there are reports of
DVD region changers that can be downloaded as either freeware
or shareware. Do a search, starting from Google, for them.

You might like to look at DVD Genie from
http://www.inmatrix.com/files/dvdgenie_download.shtml

and upgrading the players firmware to region free
http://firmware.inmatrix.com/

if you do decide to upgrade the firmware this carries a theoretical risk of
trashing the drive, mine upgraded OK.

Having not included any useful information in your post, and attempting
to piggyback onto another post while actually creating a new thread, I
would suggest cutting your losses, and pitch the problematic unit in the
nearest dumpster, and buy a different model.
