I have a packard bell machine with a combined dvd/CD rewriter in it -
never had any problems with it until today.
My machine is running windows xp (media Center) and is bang up-to-date
with the sp's and patches.

All of a sudden when i go into explorer and try to use my dvd/cd for
anything it believes is in write mode and shows the contents as blank.
It also gives me the button to "write these files to the cd". its like
this for dvd's , cd's music cd's eanything I put in the player.

Any ideas

thanks a lot

If the writer cannot read any media then it's probably gone south. You
could try rt
clicking on MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device
Manager>Dvd/Cdrom Drives>your drive. rt click and choose Uninstall. Restart
and let WinXP reinstall it.
