Tony

I have two DVD drives on my system. One happened to be
Pioneer DVD-RW. The problem with it is, that after
restarting computer, this drive (E:) is not visible
under Hardware Device Manager, or My Computer, or Windows
Explorer. The Drive is detected by BIOS, it is visible if
I restart to Safe Mode. All I have to do is to run "add
hardware" or "scan for hardware changes" for the drive to
appear again. The funny part is, being in "Device
Manager" if I right click "scan for hardware changes"
drive appears, then being visible, right click again to
dissapear, then right click again to appear, Strange ,
any?
Can anybody help me, please

Kelly, I have applied your patch, still same thing, I
have changed jumpers on the back of both DVD from master-
slave to cable select, still no luck

In the meantime, I would suggest looking for or creating a 'scan for
hardware changes' autorun script.

And/or using MS Devcon if applicable.

Scripting Device Manager Changes:

This article is not about some security condition in the NSA but about the
little used but powerful utility called DEVCON available at
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/1/f/11f7dd10-272d-4cd2-896f-9ce67f3e0240/devcon.exe

Using this utility you can command line execute various actions that would
otherwise have to be done interactively via Device Manager. It currently
supports Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Not for nothin, but did you try right clicking on My Computer (under
Start) and choose manage. Look at the Disk Management section. Does
the drive show up there? And does it have a letter designation? Maybe
there is a way to make the drive permanent somewhere in the properties
of the drive, or some other setting.
Also, check for new drivers at
http://www.fileflash.com/?action=download&program=3507
You can download and install the ASPI v4.71 drivers.... Just a
thought of a new direction to take.
You can also switch slave and master as mentioned above, it might
help.
Let us know if this does or does not help. Thank you.

Will see what I can do.

Kelly, How do I create autorun script for this particular
case?

Kelly, last night I've tried Devcon, unfortunately, I was
not able to accomplish anything, I guess, I am not sure
how to use this program, however, I've tried different
thing, I removed the DVD-Rom, which is usually visible
after restarting computer, the DVD-R magically shows up
in "Hardware Management" It almost looks to me, like the
system does not like two DVD in same IDE channel, I will
go to computer store, and try to buy longer cables, and
then hook up one HDD and one DVD to IDE1 and another HDD
and second DVD to IDE2, I have gust feeling, that is going
to work,(I hope they sell longer cables )

Great news, hope it works out. :o)
