dvd Problem

My Sony 710a DVD recorder will play DVD"s and music cd"s, but will not run a program cd such as turbo tax etc.
 
Not even when you open windows explorer and navigate to that folder on the DVD drive and click the .exe file???

No not even in explorer, shows cd rom drive but but blank screen when you click on it.
