DVD movies: which option ?

A

Lately I was shopping for some dvd video movies and had bought some
movies. with tag 9.00 (they claimed its newest video standard).
But when I run them on my pc dvd drive (ide) the pc simply hang
and will not run. I have tried other dvds (older) but it runs.

So should I upgrade/change the cdrom-dvd drive or should I surf to
download firmware?
Mine is Gateway performance pc (PIII 600mhz, 192 sdram, win98se)
with original cd-dvd drive.

Please help
Thank-you

Sounds like you have a fairly old system, In which case it may be that your
CD/DVD does not support the Enhanced Region Coding standard. A New drive
would probably fix it easily, but google firmware upgrades and you may find
a fix for it. On my Laptop I use 'DVD Region Free' Which seems to do a good
job of bypassing all hardware calls. You could download a trial copy and run
it from www.dvdidle.com.
