dvd missing - no filters

What do I do if there are no Upper filters or Lower Filters in the registry
and my dvd still dosen't show up or work?
Been trying to fix this for a month now. Sometimes it works when I uninstall
the driver, sometimes it works when I put it to Sleep.
Then next boot , nothing.
Seems that hardware shouldn't be this big of a problem for Microsoft,
where's the utility that fixes these problems?

No. I got no error messages whatsoever, it just wasn't showing up.
I downloaded a file called cdgone.reg and this seems to have corrected the
problem.
We shall see with the next few restarts.

Cancel that it didn't work.
I tried putting it into sleep mode (because it works sometimes) andthen I
got a pop up in the taskbar that said "Hardware Missing" widows can't
identify the ATA 1 device or something like that.
It dissappeared before I could write it down.

Buy another DVD drive and hook it up.
A DVD burner can be bought for around $30.
Unless you are under warranty. Then call you pc maker.

I did a system restore and found that Toshiba added a program called cd/dvd
silencer as an update.
I restored before this was installed and my dvd reappeared.
I disabled this in the startup and will see if this is the offending program.
Thanks.
