DVD & DVDRW Drives--Slow Playback

When I try to play a CD or DVD in either of the drives, they play extremely
slow. At first, it was only the DVD drive, but now the DVDRW drive is doing
the same thing. Also, I have a program that converts audio CDs into MP3s,
and since the drives started acting up, it takes about twice as long to save
them to my hard drive.

Check your bios to see if its' settings have dropped back to "failsafe," if
so you may need to correctly set most everything.
How old is the PC, is it clogged up with dust ?
If it is full up with dust - employ rigid anti-static precautions, and blow
it out. (...don't allow fans to spin to avoid back-voltage damage).

You might try looking in device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers,
secondary IDE channel, properties, advanced settings tab, see if the current
transfer mode is "ultra DMA mode 2" or if it has slipped into "PIO mode"..?
Should be set to "DMA if available"..
