CD/DVD Drive Not Recognizing Different CDs

If I put any cd or dvd in my drive, then try to switch to a different cd, the
drive won't recognize the change but will instead continue to show the files
for the first cd. It doesn't matter if I replace a music CD with a DVD or
data CD. The drive is also not recognizing any CD or DVD I put in to try to
write to. Music CDs, DVDs, data CDs, and even games work fine when
recognized.

I have tried to troubleshoot the problem, but had no results. Device
Manager doesn't detect any problems. Virus-scanned, spyware scanned, no new
driver installed (no updates or roll backs either).

Computer details as follows:

Inspiron 8200
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
CD Rom Drive Model= HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N
Dell DVDRW Combo Inspiron 8000/8100/8200 DVD BURNER Recordable
DVDR/DVDRW/CDR/CDRW Combination Drive COMBO Drives SIDEBAY

I'd appreciate any help I can get, since I've been restarting my computer
when I need to change discs.

What burning software are you using? It may need to be updated..As a last
resort your CD/DVD devices firmware may need to be updated..

You might try this, download cdgone.zip and backup your registry to be safe
(read
the readme file) and merge the cdgone.reg (right click, merge) file to the
registry and reboot the computer. This should clear up the problem, though
you will also have to reinstall any third party cd/dvd related burning apps
etc.. if they are required or needed, it's your choice..
