DVD Driver Disabled

Hello. Somehow my cd & dvd drivers have been disabled. If I go into My
Computer it does not show either drive. When in device manager it shows both
cd & dvd drive with a yellow ! & in properties it says "A driver (service)
for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this
functionality. (Code 32)" I have tried unistalling but when I restart it is
still listed in the device manager as if I never unistalled it. I have also
went to the manufacturers website & downloaded the firmware driver but when I
try to install it "Target NEC ND-2500A (dvd drive) is not found correctly."
Can somebody please help me before I go crazy and just throw this computer
out the window?! Oh and by the way I have Windows XP sp2 running on my
computer. Not sure if you needed to know that or not but just in case. Thanks
so much!

Goto http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
website

Thanks, I found my opticals both missing today. I removed the LOWER filter entry... no UPPER entry existed. All seems OK now after rebooting.

Thanks again... big help.

I had the exact same problem and it drove me nuts reinstalling differen
drives and drivers all of which did no good. Then I found this sit
with sweetmellisa (awesome song by the way) with gary Tsangs' reply an
within 10 minutes my stress levels reverted back to normal. I alread
tried microsoft help and they were rubbish. Its nice to know tha
there are others out there with computer problems, and that there ar
others who have the answeres! So thanks so much for your help
