when i put a dvd in the drive it goes to read it ,i can see the read light
flashing.it also spins the disk but does not recognise the files on it.
Although the cds and cdR works just fine.
The drive itself does not show any error.and upgrading the driver does not
help either.
this problem seems to appear now quite often.

Hi Asif,

Try a CD lens cleaner disk, they are commonly available in any store that
sells CD/DVD media.

I experienced a similar problem today---the DVD spins, the drive is "busy"
according to My Computer, and the system slows to a crawl. I have to eject
the disc to return to business as usual. The dvd plays fine on another XP
machine that has not yet been service-packed to XP SP2.

Are you running SP2?

I have the same problem with XP SP2.
What is reason? How to uninstall SP2?
