I built a computer for my parents and purchased a retail version of XP Home
Edition with SP2. XP installs fine, but once the installation is complete
the DVD drive will not read ANY type of disk. Device Manager shows no
problems, BIOS shows no problems. The DVD drive is a new Samsung Model:
SH-S202 (Best Buy)

Did you already try upgrading the driver through a driver found at the
manufacturer's website? Try disabling it and re-enabling it.

Assume NERO comes with the DVD drive. What does NERO say about it?

Yes, I have installed the Samsung Update manager and have confirmed I have
the latest driver. Could it be that I have not activated XP yet?

No, it has nothing to do with activating.

Yeah, one good thing about NERO is that it bundled with most new optical
drives.
