DVD Decoder

I can not play DVDs on my computer either, although I was
led to believe when I bought the computer I would be able
to do so.

I have also been told I have a decoder or something on my
PC that needs initiating.

How do I do this?

You can buy a DVD decoder from places like Power DVD or Cyberlink. They are
required to play DVDs on your machine and typically come with the DVD drive
when you buy it.
