Something very strange has happend to my CD ROM drive on
my laptop. It is a Matshita UJDA720 DVD/CDRW.

I has 'dissapeared' as far as windows is concerned. The
icon from the 'my computer' window has vanished. I cannot
access it though any media player and inserted disks do
not auto-play. My devise manager reports an error code 31 -
'Windows cannot load drivers...' I have tried to load the
drivers from the site and nothing.

The system recognises the hardware in the BIOS settings (I
have even tried booting from the rom but nothing).
Microsoft suggested running the reg fix and xp boot disks
but this has not worked. I am out of ideas, can any help?

Craig

i lost both my cdrw and cddvd. see my post - phantom device. mine has a phantom device litsed that keeps them from being seen. does device manager do the same to you? no fix yet.
