DVD CD ROM DRIVE NOT RECOGNISED

Dear Sir / Madam
I purchased my PC form a Computer fair and I asked the supplier if he could
install A DVD rewriter as opposed to the normal DVD.My PC has the DVD
rewriter and a normal CD rom. On many occassions however when I start up my
PC, the DVD drive is not recognised. I have to switch off the PC or restart
it whilst pressing the eject button on the respective DVD drive. The normal
CD rom has no problems as the DVD drive. When the DVD is working it works well
! The DVD-RW is set up on "D" drive and the CD rom on "E" and I have two hard
drives which are partitioned. I have gone into the Bios and set up to
recognise the hard drives etc.
I am currently running XP home. Can you please suggest how I can rectify
this problem without losing the performance of my DVD drive as it is running
very well. Also do I need the CD rom, and can I replace it with a CD -RW
drive.
Your Faithfully

If the two are on the same IDE cable, the Burner driver should be
connected as the master. If you only have a Hard drive on the other
cable, I would move the CD to be Slave there, and make the DVD burner
Master, on its own

Thanks for the advise and link, and as you say maybe I should ask the
provider of the PC to check it out. I have his number...sometimes the obvious
is too easy. Many Thanks again Dave
