DVD/CD Burner only recognised as CD-rom

Due to various problems have clean installed W2k on to a
Packard Bell iMedia 5106. All has gone well (I think)
except that Windows does not recognise the DVD/CD burner.
System Info only shows it as a CD-Rom but the device is
listed as a _NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A in the Device Manager.
It should be mentioned that this machine originally ran
under XP, but was reverted to W2k some time ago. I am
given to understand that the burner has been giving
problems ever since the first installation of W2k.

.
I need to add to this. Having checked on my own
machine, also running W2k, Ifind that the information
within Sys Info and Device Manager is identical to that on
the Packard Bell.

However, having tried two versions of Nero on the Packard
Bell, neither of them pick up the DVD/CD writer so it is
unusable. How do I get Nero to see it?
