The following articles are focused on Windows
Movie Maker but should give you an idea of
what's involved in creating a DVD that will play
on a DVD player.

If I understand correctly you are actually trying to create a data DVD to
play on your computer via Media Player?
Can I also assume that you did no editing to the video and are only trying
to burn the video file as it was when you received it?
Lastly did you play the video file in Media Player off your hard drive?

Normally if a video clip is playing in Media Player as an audio clip it is
because you do not have the correct codec installed.
If it played off your hard drive but no longer plays now that it is burned
on a DVD then what software did you use and how did you go about putting the
video file on your DVD?

If it is a DVD to play in a home DVD Player that you desire then follow the
links John gave you and you will be fine.
