dvd burning issues

been burning dvd's fine until recently. Suddenly, after re-installing XP, all
programs I use (powerproducer, neodvd etc) report error, and stop before
burning.
I have been told that I need to disable XP's own burning tools, as they will
interfere with third party burn - is this true and how do I do it (never
needed to b4). Powerproducer does mention not to install an "Intel
application" as this will interfere.
Anyway, HELP!!!

Hi,

Click start/run, type msconfig and click ok. On the services tab, search for
and disable (uncheck) the imapi burning service. Click apply/ok and reboot.
This will disable the native burning service.

If you did an "over the top" reinstall rather than a repair install, you may
find that you need to reinstall your DVD burning software as well.

(Another case of windows making things more difficult than they need to be,
or am I just too old and stupid? - No replies needed on THAT one thanks!!!!!)

While I understand that you see this as a problem with Windows perhaps the
problem is related to the third party software you are using. Have you
looked for updates or troubleshooting faqs for your Powerproducer and Neodvd
programs?

I agree its worth a look, but this all worked fine before - same windows cd,
same neo cd etc, originally installed on a freshly formatted drive, and it
all worked. Did the same again, newly formatted drive etc - nice clean
install, and it just aint having it!

hmmm. I've had DVD drives that have stopped burning DVD's but continue to
burn CDs. These have ended up being failing drives. Did you recently flash
your DVD drive by any chance? The wrong flash can cause serious problems.
