DVD Burner won't recognize DVD-R disc

I've installed a new (although discontinued) TDK 440n DVD multi-format burner
and attendant software. It reads and plays DVD movies, and music CD's. But it
doesn't "see" a DVD-R with an ISO file. I contacted TDK, who told me there is
a problem within XP on this issue. According to MS article ID# 883523, there
is a 'hot fix' for this, but I can't locate it to d/l it, and email service
wants $59 !! Some error in the Imapi file?

I have an older computer running XP Pro SP2, Pentium III 600 MHz. The older
mobo/CPU is why I chose the older model TDK, because newer units usually
require a fasterprocessor and updated graphics I cant afford.

Any ideas how I can get this hotfix, or is there another option??

Microsoft does not charge for any specific hotfixes. Revisit:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883523

Note that: "In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred
for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional
determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual
support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that
do not qualify for the specific update in question."

Microsoft is pretty good about handling matters like this and, typically,
the hotfix is e-mailed almost immediately.

Read all of the KB article. You have to contact MS in some fashion. They
don't charge for hotfixes. Additionally here are two other ways to get one.

If in the US, Call Microsoft Professional Customer Service @
1-800-936-5700(4900) (this line is 24/7), there is an option for hotfix. A
rep will email you a link to the fix.

Or submit a request through the web.
