DVD Burner will only burn CD

Hello,

Having big problems with my DVD burner. It will NOT burn a DVD!
All the burning software I have are not able to make a DVD, only CD writing
works.
When trying to write to DVD, or the writing starts and after a few seconds
errors out (DVD useless), or the software reports an "Connect a DVD writer
and try again" message.
According device manager the drive is functioning correct. Also after
installing the driver agian, updating the firmware and even removing and
adding the device has no effect.
Any ideas?

Have you tested the drive's DVD writing capability on a different machine to
confirm it's not a hardware problem? I ask because DVD writers have two
lasers, one for DVD and one for CD. Your symptom is common in the situation
where one of the lasers has failed.
