i am having trouble with my laptop recognising dvd's written onto -rw's. i
believe it *might* be solved by writing at x1 rather than a higher speed.
the slowest i can get with powerproducer and nero express is x2 and that
still isnt recognised. i have tried contacting makers etc but no replies.
as i have around 50 dvd's done on -rw's it would be time consuming to burn
at x1 but at least i could use them. any freeware progs that will burn at
x1?
regards

Was the DVD-RW written on the laptop? You might need to install UDF reader
software if it wasn't.

no it was written on standalone dvd writer. the -rw disks play ok on
desktop but not on laptop. experimented by burning onto a -r and it was ok
on laptop. BUT i have around 50 burnt -rw's so re-writing them on -rw's at
x1 would be more economical. would you expain more about udf reader while i
google it.

Hi Tigg. normally -RW disks are formatted as UDF (Universal Disk Format).
This makes them, in effect, big floppy disks, on which you store files.
They can however, be used as R disks.
When you create ordinary CDs the session gets closed to make a useable CD.
That doesn`t necessarily happen with -RWs but you can use them instead for
experimenting.

well guys, all to no avail. i had downloaded incd reader but that had no
effect on my laptop recognising my -rw's. the cdrwin wouldnt even write to
a dvd-rw (working on the desktop). i then tried formatting a -rw disk and
burnt a film to it. but again the laptop just doesnt see it at all. just
to prove to myself that im not going round the bend i have 50+ -rw disks of
films, holiday pics etc all done using my panasonic dvd writer. these were
all originally on vcr tape. i took one of these -rw disks and on my desktop
i then burnt it onto a -r disk at x2 speed directly disk to disk. then i
played it perfectly ok on my laptop.
so it looks as though i will just have to burn them all again onto -r's and
i should be ok.

thanks for your advice
