I am using XP SP2 Home and 2 DVD burners, a Memorex +/-RW X1 dual
layer, and a Sony RW DW D22A. These are shown in Device Manager as
working correctly. Nero Express software came with the Sony burner. I
am trying to make a data disk, back-up photos, seems simple but...
Ulead Express sees the Sony drive as a CD recorder. If I put a new CD
in the Sony the burn process seems to go okay, and there's a message,
"Burn completed" However nothing is recorded. The same thing happens
with a DVD disk in the Memorex drive. Everything seems fine except
that the disk remains pristine and blank. When I try using Windows
Explorer to drag files to the drives I get an error message:
"Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this file. What do
you want to do?" The only option is Retry or Cancell.
I have tried uninstalling the drives in Device Manager, physically
un-plugging them and re-booting, then plugged them in one at a time
and rebooting. Device Manager says there's no problem. I don't have
another machine that I can plug these drives into. They both worked
fine the last time I tried to burn a few months ago and it seems
highly unlikely that they've both gone belly up at the same time. Any
suggestions?
