I'm posting this on a couple a groups since I'm not sure which is the
most appropriate, & I'm sorta new to this usegroup thing so be
gentle....My old motherboard
(nVidia nForce2 socket-A) recently died as did the processor (AMD
Athalon 2800+), so I had the motherboard replaced as well as the
processor (a new AMD sempron 2500+), since this my DVD-RW (sony
dru-710a) no longer
writes to DVDs, It will read them just not write to them. Writes to
CDs just fine. I've also reinstalled the dvd drives software (nero 6
oem version), uninstalled and again reinstgalled it, as well as going
thru the process with a full version of nero 6 ultimate I have Any
suggestions. Thanks-pickluh

The writing part of the DVD RW and CD RW use different lasers. It's
possible the laser has failed. Is the optical drive still under guarantee?

No it's not. Luckily for Sony, the warranty ran out about a month ago.
All my mb chipsets & all drivers are current, ASPI layer is present
(removed ASPI layer, then re-installed in case of corruption). Pulled
the drive from my box, put it into another, works fine...I'm ready to
pull my teeth out over this. Surely there must be something I'm
overlooking.
