DVD and Sound devices will NOT LOAD

Recently my DVD RW stopped being recognized. I did a device manager check
and there is a yellow triangle. It's a Sony D56a on an Inspiron XPS Gen2
laptop from Dell.

Also at the same time my entire Sound, Video, and Game Controller section
has yellow triangles

And something odd in the system devices area, the Microsoft Composite
Battery has a yellow triangle.

I can do everything on my computer. Internet, all my software works, with
the exception of the DVD drive and the sound.

I hava Soundblaster Audiology Z2 Notebook PCMCIA.

I have to believe this has something to do wtih a messed up registry key,
but I've done a back up and restore from registries from as recent as a week
ago, to one from several months ago.

When I try to reinstall the drivers it tells me that it can't find better
drivers than are currently installed.

THis is the error for the DVD: Windows cannot load the device driver for
this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Same error for the sound, and this is the error for the composite battery:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I've spent several hours searching the registry, and can't find any thing
that looks irregular.

Any advice?

Uninstall your DVD drive and sound card stuff in Device Manager. Reboot and
let Windows reinstall it properly. You may need your drivers handy.
