Duplicate Name?

In just the last day (I haven't added any programs or made any changes) right
before I log in, I get an error window that says a duplicate name already
exists. It doesn't say what it exists for, but does anybody have any idea of
what caused it all of a sudden? I am a college student hooked up to the
campus internet network, and my girlfriend who attends here is getting the
same messsage.

It can mean that someone else named their computer the same as yours,
something you have no control over. Try changing it. If the message goes
away, that's the problem.

Right-click on My Computer, and choose Properties. On the Computer Name tab,
choose Change. Change the computer name - for a quick test, add an X or
something as the first character - and choose OK back to the desktop and
restart.
