Hi All,

I have a bit of a issue, when we RIS a number of new machines using a
windows 2000 image. We smoetimes get an error saying that there are
Duplicate GUIDs and it gives the machine that has the same GUID. What is a
GUID? and can I change the GUID so that these mchines don't the same GUID.

Thanks
Andy

A guid is a globally unique identifier - this should be unique for each
computer around the world. However, it sounds like you are encountering
the problem listed in the following kb article:

242920 How the Remote Installation Boot Disk Works
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=242920

From Help in Windows 2000 the following definition of guid is listed:

The computer's globally unique identifier (GUID) appears in the following
areas:
A label on the side of the computer case.
A label within the computer case.
The basic input/output system (BIOS) of the client computer.

The computer's GUID is supplied by the manufacturer.
The GUID must be in the form {dddddddd-dddd-dddd-dddd-dddddddddddd}, where
d is a hexadecimal text digit.
For example: 8 hexadecimal text digits, followed by 4, then 4, then 4, then
12, such as the following:
