GUID problem

Hi, I have probelm with RIS and GUID.
Sometimes two computer have the same GUID and then the RIS install mess up
the whole Active Directory. Computers fall out from the domain and are
impossible to get back...

In this case, we have 10 new laptaps all with the same GUID
(5555-55555555555555555555 etc)
When I try to RIS the x computer takes over the Y computers account in the
ID.
Is it a way to change the GUID?
I think the manufacture created this GUID with their diskimage tool or
something like that...

How shoud I deal with this problem?
Does any body have some tips?
Please let me know
/Martin

Unusual that a major manufucturer, such as Dell, HP, etc, would do such a
thing. The GUID is also based on the MAC address of the NIC. Can't see how
they have identical MACs. They also use Sysprep exclusively to roll out
their new installs to insure a new machine SID upon reboot after going thru
the mini setup.

Not sure who your manufacturer is, but I may suggest to sysprep or in your
case, Riprep one of the laptop images and use Ghost or RIS to put that
sysprepped/riprepped image on the other machines.

Hi, thanks for your respond.
I have the same problem with a Aopen motherbord with Realtek onbord lan.
They have all the same GUID: 000000000000000000001

I try to RIS the computers but that cause the problem.
When Ris start it say the computer account allready exist and then it "kicks
out" the old computer from the AD(the old computer with the same GUID as the
new).

The computer is from a swedish computer manufactor called DGC, I think they
use DiskImage to put out their windows insatllation.
Do you know what I can do?
Thanks /Martin

Is the PXE version .99c or newer?

I haven't come across this problem. Usually the GUID is based on the NIC's
MAC. When the GUID is all zeros as in your case, then I believe it's
assuming that the GUID cannot be located and NOT based on the MAC because
there is no GUID associated with the machine. To overcome this, you can
pre-create the computer account in the domain, give it the name of the
machine and give it the NIC GUID.

If the machines are ghosted from an image by the manuf, that wouldn't really
have anything to do with the GUID since it's in the BIOS and/or based on the
NIC MAC.

See if these help out.
