RIS Problem

Hello.

I have had RIS working on a server for about 2 years now and have used it to
standardize all of the workstations for one of my clients. It has been
about 6 months since we have had to re-image a workstation until this
morning.

Now, what I am seeing is that the baseline XP image tries to install never
prompting for the different OS options. I see all of the images there and I
can see them in the server properties. I have had the server verify its RIS
installation and gone through the permissions.

When RIS is run, it successfully creates the computer account and creates
the <GUID>.sif file in the tmp directory. When I look at the .sif, it is
always for the base install.

I have wracked my brain and gone through the KB, but still have no solution.
Suggestions??

Thanks,

if this is a new workstation then the HAL may not match.
try disabling hyperthreading in the BIOS of the new PC,
sometime this help.
otherwise you have to create a new image for this type
of PC.

Domi,

Its not a HAL problem at all. Even if it were a complete HAL mismatch, the
OSCML page should come up asking which version of the OS I would like to
install. The verification of the HAL doesn't come until after that step.

Usually, this page is only skipped when there is just one version of the OS
available. This is the effect that I am seeing, but this is not how the
images are stored. Normally this happens with a permissions problem, but I
am not seeing any problems there -- especially given the fact that I am
doing the RIS installations as Domain\Administrator.

As such, I am looking for other venues to explore, or a way to verify and
reset the permissions on the RIS images.
