Duplicate data in separate Outlook 2002 profiles

Rich

I am using Outlook 2002 (xp).

My wife and I have separate Outlook profiles. I noticed today that at
the bottom of my folder list is "Personal Folders" which contains all
of my wife's data. This also appears in her profile. How can I
safely delete this folder from my profile and have it remain in hers?

Thanks.

You can right-click the root folder of that .PST file and click Close -- it
will disappear from your profile, but hers should not be affected.

Jocelyn,

I tried that but got a pop-up message saying: "The operation failed.
An object could not be found."

Can you remove her .PST from your profile through File | Data File
Management?

In that case, the easiest thing to do would be for you to create a new mail
profile from scratch, add just your own .PST to it, and delete the old
profile.

Could you please give me step-by-step instructions for doing this? Do
I need to add all my e-mail services, address books, etc.?

Thanks.

Go to Control Panel | Mail (if you're using the Category View for Control
Panel, you may have to search the various categories for the Mail icon -- on
my copy of WinXP Pro it's under User Accounts, but others have told me their
mail icon is in another category). A dialog box called "Mail Setup -
Outlook" will appear. Click the Show Profiles button, then click the Add
button to add a new profile. Give it a name, then click OK. With the new
profile selected, click Properties. Click E-mail Accounts to add your
e-mail account(s) to the new profile, and when you're done with that, come
back to the same dialog and click Data Files to add your .PST file to the
new profile. (Your .PST file contains all your data; your Address Book is
just another view of your Contacts folder, which is in the .PST.) Tell
Outlook to always start in the new profile, then click OK to exit the Mail
Setup dialog.

Go back into Outlook and test the new profile to make sure all looks OK.
When you're satisfied with it, go back into Mail Setup and delete the old
profile.
